Duke Construction, Inc. is a small general contractor located in the Richmond, Virginia area.
Of the three basic types of construction company organizations (those that are managerial only, those that perform actual
construction, and those that both manage and perform actual construction), Duke Construction, Inc. fits into the third category.
By managing the project and performing much of the actual construction, Duke Construction, Inc. ensures a quality custom-made
product that is completed in a timely manner.
The owner of Duke Construction, Inc., Fred Laube, started the business as a sole proprietorship
in 1983 and incorporated in 1999. Mr. Laube has over 20 years hands-on experience in frame and finish carpentry, excavation,
brick, and concrete masonry, roofing, and siding.
Mr. Laube is a native of Richmond and a graduate of James Madison University with an undergraduate
degree in business administration. Together, the practical and academic experience, allows Mr. Laube to run Duke Construction,
Inc. as both a managerial and performance contractor.
The typical procedure for a project is as follows:
- Initial contact where the project is discussed in general and a general estimate is given if possible;
- A site visit is made to determine its impact, if any, on the estimate (terrain, ability to accept deliveries,
architechure of main buildings, situation of project on the lot, etc.);
- The contract, which contains the specifications and payment requirements, is drawn up and signed (deposits
are made at this time);
- Customized plans are drawn by Duke Construction, Inc., by an independent designer, or are provided by the
owner (the owner must approve the plans);
- Permits are obtained and the construction phase is run to completion.
